Mesoporous Activated Carbon from Bamboo Waste via Microwave-Assisted K2CO3 Activation: Adsorption Optimization and Mechanism for Methylene Blue Dye

Bamboo waste (BW) was activated with a K2CO3 precursor in microwave process for the adsorption of MB dye from an aqueous solution. The prepared bamboo-waste-activated carbon (BWAC) analyzed by instrumental techniques such as FTIR, SEM, and BET analysis. surface BWAC mesoporous area 107.148 m2/g. removal optimized three variables adsorbent dose, pH, contact time using Box–Behnken design (BBD) model. Up to 87% removed conditions dose 0.08 g/100 mL, pH 7.62, 8 min, concentration 50 mg/L. Here, most effective parameter found be F-value 121.70, while showed smaller effect. maximum capacity 85.6 mg/g. on BWAC’s through chemisorption spontaneous process. mechanism study that types interactions are responsible solutions BWAC, i.e., electrostatic interactions, H-bonding, pi–pi interactions. Hence, can considered highly efficient wastewater.
